Some Voters Say Machines Failed, Incorrect Choices Appear on Screens

ABQJournal, October 22, 2004 . . . [Kim Griffith] went to Valle Del Norte Community Center in Albuquerque, planning to vote for John Kerry. “I pushed his name, but a green check mark appeared before President Bush's name,” she said.
Griffith erased the vote by touching the check mark at Bush’s name. That's how a voter can alter a touch-screen ballot.
She again tried to vote for Kerry, but the screen again said she had voted for Bush. The third time, the screen agreed that her vote should go to Kerry.
She faced the same problem repeatedly as she filled out the rest of the ballot. On one item, “I had to vote five or six times,” she said.
Michael Cadigan, president of the Albuquerque City Council, had a similar experience when he voted at City Hall.
“I cast my vote for president. I voted for Kerry and a check mark for Bush appeared,” he said. . . .
GOP Voter Drive Accused of Tossing Cards

AP, October 22, 2004 In several battleground states across the country, a consulting firm funded by the Republican National Committee has been accused of deceiving would-be voters and destroying Democratic voter registration cards.
Arizona-based Sproul & Associates is under investigation in Oregon and Nevada over claims that canvassers hired by the company were instructed to register only Republicans and to get rid of registration forms completed by Democrats. . . .
Former canvassers . . . have come forward in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Oregon in the past two weeks alleging they were told to register only Republicans and to “walk away” from people who said they intended to vote for Democrat John Kerry.
Some said Democratic registration forms had been thrown out or ripped up.
It is illegal to tamper with voter registration cards, which are numbered and issued by local election officials. In some states, including Oregon, such acts are felonies.
Eric Russell of Las Vegas told The Associated Press that he watched a Sproul supervisor tear up eight to 10 registration forms completed by Democrats and managed to grab some of the shredded documents as evidence. State officials are investigating his claim. . . .
Meanwhile, in Ohio, Republicans are challenging the eligibility of newly registered voters in 65 counties—thousands of voters—effectively preventing them from voting because the requirements for responding to a challenge cannot be met in time for Election Day—and they can’t vote while their eligibility is under challenge.

 Blood in the water around Sinclair
Oh where to begin to feel glee on this terrible day for Sinclair Broadcast Group? First there is the matter of its stock price: it went below its previous 52-week low of $6.75 today, ending down 7.8% at $6.49.
But even before that, it was ranked number 4 in the latest Five Dumbest Things on Wall Street This Week, at TheStreet.com.
Then there is the Sinclair employee who today spoke out against the anti-Kerry broadcast: “It’s biased political propaganda, with clear intentions to sway this election,” said Jon Leiberman, Sinclair’s lead political reporter for more than a year. “For me, it's not about right or left—it's about what's right or wrong in news coverage this close to an election.”
Predictably Mr. Lieberman has been fired—considering the state of Sinclair’s business at the moment I would have to say this was not only a conscienable and brave act by a true patriot but also a smart career move.
And let’s not forget the Vietnam veteran who today filed suit against Sinclair for using his 30-year-old comments out of context in their anti-Kerry propaganda piece. The lawsuit, filed in Philadelphia, charges malicious defamation and invasion of privacy.
Just about 80 advertisers have pulled out of Sinclair deals as of today—thanks to fast organizing and dedicated letter-writing and e-mailing by We The People—get in on it at Boycott Sinclair Broadcast Group, with contact info for every advertiser, mass e-mail links, updates, more. Almost 120,000 people have already signed the petition requesting Sinclair not to air its anti-Kerry doodoomentary “Stolen Honor.”

Nothing could be more fitting for the unpatriotic propagandizing greedheads of Sinclair Broadcast Group, who you might remember are the same lowlifes who censored the reading of the names of our fallen troops in Iraq by Ted Koppel on Nightline in May 2004. A Republican businessman vilifies George Bush
George Bush is not a Christian, Karl Schwarz tells you. He is a liar, and Christians don't lie.
Schwarz is telling this to anyone who might listen, including President Bush, to whom he fired off a smoking email entitled An American Demands the Truth From You.
Other listeners are adding up quickly. First he sent to his stockholders—300,000 people or so—a PowerPoint presentation daylighting the greed, deception, and stupefying corruption of the Bush Administration [note: PPT file]. Lately he is making the rounds of the talk show circuit, and the wild book of outrage will soon be on the streets.
It is a formidable read. 810 pages. And a comprehensive title to match: One Way Ticket to Crawford, Texas: A Conservative Republican Speaks Out on September 11, 2001; Afghanistan; Iraq; Bush-Cheney 2004; Imperial Oil “Strategeries.”
Mr. Schwarz’ faith does not surface in the book, but his disgust as a citizen is apparent, and his white-hot anger about the Bush Administration is supported by vivid descriptions of graft and corruption, with dates, names, and places.
The book displays the ongoing transformation of a decent democracy into the functional fascism of corporate empire. The Republicans are not uniquely responsible for this—Schwarz takes directed swipes at the Clinton years—but the Bush Administration’s frenzied, happy sellout to the corporate and the wealthy is rapidly completing the process. George Bush and his henchmen, Schwarz asserts, are brazenly using the military might of the United States to enrich their political supporters and their associated corporate interests.
Karl W. B. Schwarz lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was twice asked by his party (but declined) to run for governor, opposing Bill Clinton. He was a top fundraiser for the Republican National Committee, as a close personal friend of RNC treasurer William J. “Mr. Mac” McManus. Schwarz was active at the highest levels in the re-election campaign of George H.W. Bush. He has not been a lightweight Republican.
But neither is he dogmatically partisan. More than victory in politics, Schwarz seeks integrity in public life and truth in the flow of information to the public.
One Way Ticket to Crawford, Texas is a comprehensive expose of the Bush Administration’s systematic deflecting of public policy to favor private, corporate interests. The Administration leapt on the opportunity provided by the anthrax scare, for example, to inoculate 550,000 servicemen and women with a vaccine known to be dangerous. Hugely profitable to a pharmaceutical corporation benefactor, there is clinical evidence the vaccine caused widespread respiratory disease, heart attacks, strokes, and pulmonary embolisms. The book also details the Bush Administration complicity in Enron’s savaging of the California electricity market. And so forth.
Schwarz’ signature revelation is the story of what happened to an obscure Argentinean company, the Bridas Corporation—and how that might explain 9/11, Afghanistan, and Iraq. . . .

. . . 1. I demand as an American citizen that you lift the “gag order” on Sibel D. Edmonds and let Americans know what foreign names and what AMERICAN NAMES she uncovered in her FBI translations who were involved in drug trafficking, money laundering and the financing of 9-11. Her facts and your “official story” lies do not add up. Americans demand the truth on that matter before the election. . . .
8. I demand to know why you have not been truthful with the American public that your GWOT [Global War On Terror] and military policy are protecting the Caspian Basin Oil and Gas deals for many of your Bush Pioneers, some $9.6 trillion in oil and about $3 trillion in natural gas, now mostly in the hands of your elite wealthy contributors and some elite Liberals to keep this all quiet. . . .
13. I demand to know why you could not find 10 people to sit on the 9-11 Commission who are not directly benefiting from the actions you have taken and the lives you have cost or otherwise ruined. . . .
15. I demand to know why you wanted an entire new division of the CIA for Argentina. As an American citizen I take umbrage to your belligerence towards a nation that is not an enemy of the United States by any stretch of the imagination, except possibly yours. It is abundantly clear that your intentions were solely to intimidate Argentina and Argentina based Bridas Corporation into silence and that is NOT AMERICA. That has every appearance of the United States acting as the terrorist and a state sponsor of terrorism. Yes, you are wrapped in a flag but I clearly see that it is not the one you purport it to be.
16. I demand to know why your administration has never disclosed that DynPort Vaccine, LLC, owned by DynCorp and now owned by Computer Sciences Corporation, a Bush Pioneer, is a possible source for where the weaponized Ames Strain of anthrax came from that was used against this nation. How did your administration manage to miss one of your campaign contributors and a company doing large volumes of business with your administration and even being known euphemistically (DynCorp) as The Mercenary Company? Who put out that Contract on America?
17. I demand to know how you can claim a pretense of being a Christian while sponsoring and condoning the torture of prisoners, including sodomizing children, at Abu Ghraib prison.
18. I demand to know how your administration can send firms overseas as “representatives of this nation” that were convicted of running a flesh trade in little girls in Bosnia, specifically one DynCorp. Convicted in Texas and the United Kingdom according to reports I have seen and apparently detested in Afghanistan. You do recall that DynCorp is the company providing security to protect your puppet Karzai in Afghanistan and your other puppet Zalmay Khalilzad is deterring anyone from running for President in that bogus “free” democracy? . . .
Much much more, all very important. This should be Big, folks, please help to send it far and wide via The People’s Network; make Karl Schwarz, another true patriot, a household name that the bloodsuckers of BushCo can't ignore.
